Airbus A310 - Air Afrique

Air Afrique (Société de Transports Aériens en Afrique) was founded in 1961 as a subsidiary of Air France and Union Aéromaritime de Transport (UAT, later UTA). It was intended as the airline of a number of former French colonies in West and Central Africa. Air Afrique was dismantled after the downturn in the airline business after the 11 September 2001 attacks.

Air Afrique flew several widebody types. The first was the McDonnell Douglas DC-10 of which it operated five. The first DC-10 was delivered in 1973. Later the airline introduced the Boeing 747 and the Airbus A300, A310 and A330, and for short periods the Boeing 767 and Lockheed TriStar.

During the 1990s Air Afrique operated eight Airbus A310-300s, of which the first one entered the fleet in 1991. The photograph of the A310 is taken at Geneva Cointrin Airport.
