Airbus A310 - Ariana Afghan Airlines

Ariana Afghan Airlines is the oldest and largest airline of Afghanistan. It was founded in 1955 as Aryana Airlines. It is based at Kabul International Airport. The airline became a widebody opeator with the arrival of a single McDonnell Douglas DC-10 in 1979. During the Taliban regime the airline had to diminish its activities to a very small scale and was grounded completely in 2001.

From December 2001, after the overthrow of the Taliban, Ariana began to rebuild its operations. The airline recieved three Airbus A300s as a gift from India for international flights. In 2005 two Airbus A310s joined the fleet, followed by another four in 2008, 2009 and 2010, all of the -300 version. The photograph shows an Ariana Airbus A310 taxiing at Frankfurt Rhein/Main Airport.
