Airbus A330-300 - US Airways

US Airways is a major airline with hubs in Charlotte, Philadelphia and Phoenix plus a big presence at Washington National Airport. Today's US Airways is the result of a merger in 2009 between US Airways and America West Airlines. The history of US Air goes back to 1939 with the founding of All American Aviation Inc, with headquarters in Pittsburgh. In 1953 it became Allegheny Airlines and since then absorbed several other airlines like Lake Central Airlines and Mohawk Airlines. In 1979 the airline was rebranded as USAir. In 1989 it took over Pacific Southwest Airlines (PSA) and Piedmont Airlines. In 1997 the airline changed its name to US Airways.

Todays airline flies around 350 mainline jetliners and more than 300 regional aircraft. A small portion of the fleet consists of widebody airliners. In the year 2000 US Airways received its first Airbus A330-300. Also in the fleet are the A330-200 and the Boeing 767-200ER. US Airways is a member of the Star Alliance. The photograph below is in the old colour scheme of the period before the takeover of America West Airlines. The photos are taken at Frankfurt Rhein/Main Airport (above) and Manchester UK (below).
