Airbus A340-600 - South African Airways
South African Airways (SAA, formerly also known as SAL, Suid-Afrikaanse Lugdiens) is the biggest airline of South Africa.
It was founded in 1934 by the South African government. SAA ordered its first widebody aircraft in March 1968: five 747-200Bs, of which the first was delivered in October 1971. South African Airways also became operator of the Airbus A300 and Boeing 767, and today operates the A330-200, and the A340-200, -300 and -600.
South African has nine Airbus A340-600 aircraft in operation. They type was introduced in 2002 and replaced SAA's Boeing 747s. Deliveries took place until 2005. The A340-600 on the photograph is approaching London Heathrow Airport.
