Airbus A380 - Malaysia Airlines

Malaysia Airlines is the flag carrier of Malaysia. It started flying in 1947 as Malayan Airways. Later it changed its name to Malaysia-Singapore Airlines (MSA). In 1972, a couple of years after Singapore's independence, the airline was split up in two separate entities: Singapore Airlines and Malaysian Airlines System (MAS), also known as Malaysia Airlines. Today it is one of the leading airlines in southeast Asia. It is based at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

The airline became a widebody aircraft operator in 1976, when it took delivery of its first McDonnell Douglas DC-10. This enabled the airline to start scheduled services to Europe. In 1993 MAS received its first Boeing 747. Today it flies the Boeing 747-400 and 777-200ER, plus the Airbus A330-300 and A380 megajet.

The first of six A380s was delivered to Malaysia Airlines in May 2012. The aircraft wear a livery that is totally different from the standard airline colour scheme. One of the destinations of the MAS A380s is London Heathrow. The photo shows an A380 approaching this airport.
