Boeing 747-200 - Air Canada

Air Canada is by far the biggest airline of Canada. It was founded in 1936 as Trans-Canada Airlines (TCA) and began flying in 1937. The airline was renamed 'Air Canada' in 1965 and in 2001 took over its rival Canadian Airlines. Air Canada's main base is Toronto Pearson International Airport.

Air Canada began operating widebody aircraft in 1971 with the introduction of its first Boeing 747-100. The airline flew a total of fifteen Boeing 747s: five 747-100s, three 747-200 Combis and seven 747-400, including three Combis. The airline's last flight with a Boeing 747-400 was on 31 October 2004, from Frankfurt to Toronto. The type served the airline for 33 years. The Jumbo Jet was replaced by the Airbus A340.

The photographs show Air Canada 747s in two different liveries. The photo below shows the colour scheme adopted in 1994 on a 747-200 taxiing at Frankfurt Rhein/Main Airport. The big photo shows a 747 painted in the preceding livery and is taken at London Heathrow Airport.
