Boeing 747-200 - Continental Airlines

Continental Airlines was a major US airline until it merged with United Airlines in May 2010. The airline was formed in 1934 as Varney Speed Lines and in 1937 it adopted the name Continental Air Lines.

Continental was among the launch customers for the Boeing 747, together with PanAm and TWA. It introduced the Jumbo Jet in its fleet in 1970. Later widebody aircraft in the Continental fleet were the McDonnell Douglas DC-10, the Airbus A300 and the Boeing 767 and 777. When it merged with United, it also had the 787 Dreamliner on order.

Continental flew six 747-100s and seven -200s. Most 200s entered the fleet after the airline took over People Express in 1987. Continental operated the Jumbo Jet until the mid nineties of the last century.

The photographs show Continental 747s at London Gatwick Airport, in the last colour scheme (above) and the preceding livery (below).
