Boeing 747-400F - Atlas Air
Atlas Air is an American cargo airline, operating charters and scheduled flights on behalf of other airlines. The airline was founded by Michael Chowdry in 1992 and started operations a year later with a single Boeing 747-200 freighter. Atlas Air began leasing aircraft to other airlines on an Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance and Insurance (ACMI) contract basis, also known as "wet leasing".
The company developed quickly and in 1997 ordered 10 new Boeing 747-400F freighters, with an option to purchase up to 10 more. The first 747-400Fs were delivered in 1998. By the end of 2000, the Atlas fleet had grown to a total of 36 aircraft. Today, with more than 30 747 freighters in service (747-400s and 747-8Fs) Atlas Air is the world's largest operator of Boeing 747 freighter aircraft.
